Landscape & Visual Impact Assessment

Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment (LVIA)

The LVIA, a report submitted to the local planning authority, identifies and quantifies potential landscape and visual impacts arising from a proposed infrastructure scheme on the surrounding landscape. Our range of services includes a LVIA written statement, cumulative analysis and Landscape & Visual Appraisal (LVA). We have also developed a mini-LVIA in house which is widely used in the Telecoms Sector called an Assessment of Landscape & Visual Impacts (ALVI).

Photomontages & Wireframes

Offering a clear and realistic visual representation of your development in its proposed location, our photomontages and accompanying wireframes offer Planning Authorities and other Public Bodies an easy, accessible way to assess the predicted visual impacts. Our photomontages are derived from 3D models generated from 2D AutoCAD drawings depicting specified viewpoints that are often agreed with Planning and Landscape Officers. These are enhanced with wireframes, to demonstrate the full extent of a proposal’s visibility without built form and vegetation.

Assessment of Landscape and Visual Impacts (ALVI)

For smaller scale infrastructure proposals such as telecommunications masts, single wind turbines and small scale solar farms, our bespoke LVIA report called an ALVI is produced to support a planning application for these schemes. The ALVI describes the baseline condition of the site location, its landscape character area and type, condition and sensitivity, characteristics, its predicted impact on the surrounding landscape and its visual impact aided by ZTV, photomontages and wireframes to then produce a viewpoint analysis from a number of selected viewpoints in the surrounding area.

Zone of Theoretical Visibility (ZTV)

We use detailed ZTV (or ZVI) maps to illustrate the predicted visibility of your development proposal against a 3D terrain model. Particularly beneficial for infrastructure projects such as telecommunications masts, wind turbines, solar farms, and energy storage facilities. These maps are instrumental in planning applications, environmental assessments, and public consultations, providing clear insights into how a development will integrate with its environment. We produce bare earth topographical ZTV’s without built form and vegetation and ZTV’s considering both built form and vegetation as well as producing cumulative ZTV’s considering other similar schemes in an area.

Visual Appraisal

Entrust Service’s Visual Appraisals are a review of land and its sensitivity to accommodate development in landscape and visual terms, often when our clients would like to understand more about the local landscape and the visibility of a particular site. The LVA can enable a sensitive approach to development, or form part of a submission at site representation stages to a Local Plan as it will identify the key landscape and visual opportunities and constraints of a site. The LVA is not an assessment of the effects of a development because it is addressing the principal of development rather than a fixed scheme.

Photographic Surveys and Drone Surveys

Our drone surveys use high-resolution cameras and sensors, allowing us to capture detailed aerial imagery and geospatial data that is not otherwise visible. Whether it’s capturing topographic information, monitoring construction progress, or assessing the condition of assets, our drone surveys deliver fast, accurate data and valuable insights for 3D models, orthomosaic maps, digital elevation models (DEMs) and panoramic surveys (PANS) in the telecoms sector.
